MOPAR NATIONALS
National Trail Raceway
August 7-10 2008
Columbus, OH
Mopar Nationals Race Reports,
I
made my annual trip to the Mopar Nationals in Columbus, OH at National
Trails
Raceway.
I could not get to the track till Friday morning, so my good Columbus
Buddies took my cars to the track on Thursday and got me a great parking
spot for the weekend races! On Friday & Saturday, I had some great
lights in both cars. We got three runs on Friday and two runs on
Saturday. The Water Pump Gasket on the Wag'n let go after my second
run on Saturday. We had about an hour to reseal and make the first
round of the class eliminator. I raced Bill Horn in his '64 Plymouth
Fury; Bill treed me and I broke out going 9.98 on the 10.00 index.
Sunday came and I got time runs in both cars. I Won 1st round in the
Cuda with a good light and ran a 10.29 on a 10.27 dial. I raced the
Drag'n Wag'n against my good friend Jim Guy in
his '64 Savoy. Jim and I parked together this weekend and had a lot of
fun teasing each other about our racing skills... or lack of! Jim got
me on the tree, but he went 10.96 on his 11.00 Index. The Wag'n went
9.98 on the 10.00 Index, it was close but Jim took a little too much win
stripe. Next round, I went -.010 Red in the Cuda and was knocked out
of the Pro Class. The Wag'n ran against the #1 Qualifier, Larry Smith
in his '62 Dodge. Larry is a tough race, always on the tree and his
Dodge runs right on the index. Larry went 10.507 on the 10.50 index, I
broke out at
9.996 on the 10.00 index. Larry mowed through the rest of the field
and
took the 2008 Mopar Nationals N/SS Title. Larry is a Great Ambassador
for our sport, always smiling and having a good time racing;
CONGRATULATIONS LARRY!
Next race... Milan Michigan!
